Reduce forehead height
Forehead Reduction Surgery, or hairline advancement, is a cosmetic procedure that reduces the height of your forehead. Also known as hairline lowering, this surgery results in a shorter forehead and subsequently a more balanced, youthful face in the right patient. This procedure can also be combined with a brow lift, if desired.
Decrease the prominence of your forehead
New Orleans Forehead Reduction Surgery can help reduce the size of your forehead, which affects the entire proportion of your face. By decreasing the prominence of your forehead, you can bring the rest of your features into better harmony. The procedure also uses the same incision as a trichial or “hairline” brow lift, so if desired, a brow lift can be performed at the same time.
If you are unhappy with the size of your forehead, Forehead Reduction Surgery or hairline advancement can provide better balance to your face.

This surgery is an outpatient procedure that typically takes two or so hours, depending on whether you combine it with a brow lift or other procedure. You will be under general anesthesia or sedation for the entire process.
New Orleans facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Melancon will begin by marking the part of your forehead that will be removed. She will then make incisions along the hairline according to these marks. Next, the scalp is elevated all the way to the back of the head and then brought forward. The extra skin from the forehead is then removed, shortening the forehead. Once complete, Dr. Melancon will meticulously close the incision with sutures along the hairline so that the scar will be minimized and hidden as your hair grows back.
your incision will become less and less visible
You should be able to return home the same day as your procedure. You may have a dressing covering your head that will be removed the following day. Sutures will come out after about 7-10 days. Over time, your incision will become less and less visible, especially as your hair grows through the incision line. It takes a full year for a scar to heal entirely. You will need to avoid any strenuous activity for about 6 weeks.
